Spay & Neuter

Why Spay or Neuter my Dog?

 Females that are spayed:

Have a significantly lower incidence of mammary (breast) cancer later in life, especially if spayed before their first heat.

Are less likely to get urinary tract infections than in dogs that remain intact.

Eliminates the risk for a serious infection of the uterus called pyometra which can be life threatening.

Ovarian and uterine cancers rarely occur in spayed dogs.

Males that are neutered:

Have a far greater risk of testicular cancer and prostate disease (inflammation of the prostate, prostate cancer and enlarged prostate).

Have a decreased likelihood of marking (spraying urine) being aggressive, and territorial.

Both males and females who are spayed or neutered are less likely to roam or attempt to escape from a yard by digging or jumping the fence - thus they are less likely to be hit by a car, lost, etc.
